Week 13 Question 2

2). Review the etiquette rules suggested in the text. Respond to each one. Have you ever been bothered by cell phone, answering machines, or beepers? What do you feel about call waiting? Is it rude to put people on hold to take another call?

I personally have been bothered by the new era of electronics during certain times with my friends. It seems like cell phones are always going off and grabbing peoples attention throughout the day. I to have been a victim of this new phenomenon that has arrived and is consuming my attention at odd times. Answering machines have not bothered me much since it seems like people have created a formal message and since cell phones have taken over less people have been leaving messages and voice mails. I think call waiting is great because it gives me the option of answering the other line if it is important to me. It is not rude because these days we can avoid missing urgent calls by answering when we need to.

  1. Hello,
I totally agree with what you said in your post above. I hate when I am with friends and get interrupted by their cell phone calls but on the other hand I am also guilty of answering calls when I am talking in person with other people. I think cell phones make things very convenient and I feel like I can accomplish more in a more productive way when I have my cell phone. My husband thought I was rude on one of our first dates because I answered a cell phone call while we were having dinner. I thought he was being overly sensitive but I guess I do see where he was coming from. Good job!

  2. Hello Drew! You said that current behavior when it comes to cell phones bothers you a but. Do you feel it would be better if a person waited until the present conversation was over in order to check messages/text message someone?

What do you think folks 30 years ago would respond to someone interrupting a conversation to answer the phone? How do you think people 30 from now would respond?
