I have been influenced by many speakers over the years. One speaker that i think is trully great is late night host Jay Leno. His composure is hands down increadible and he knows how to correct himself without losing the audience. A few weeks ago i was watching his program on tv and he was telling some jokes that he lined up for the segment, he would recieve mixed responses from the audience most laughs but sometimes people can get a little offended and give suprised verbal responses. Thats what i like about his talent is that he can lift all situations because he is a professional and hes does his speaches with commitment and confidence.
On the other side of speeches, Carson Daily is a speaker that has not impressed me given the oppertunities and positions he holds. I dont find his catching and interesting. Speaking to people cant be all monotoned and unnatural especially when you are on tv. I watch him sometimes on Late Night a tv programe and he try´s to be funny and tell jokes but i can tell that he try´s way to hard and he cant keep me amused like Jay Leno and David Letterman can. I think experience and natural carisma have major parts in speaking and not everyone can develope all the skills to be a great speaker.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI think you are totally correct that not everyone can be a great speaker. I think when someone is a great speaker it is a true talent.
I like Jay Leno too and compared to Carson Daly, Jay definitely takes the cake. Carson was also not a very good speaker when he was the host of TRL on MTV. Sometimes it is not how good you are but who you know that gets you ahead. The worst speaker I have ever heard that I posted in my blog was Miss Teen South Carolina 2007 when she attempted to answer a fairly simple question at the Miss Teen USA Pageant and ended up sounding like a complete moron. You should check it out I put the link in my blog. It makes me cringe every time I watch it. She definitely was not coached like she should have been.

Hi Drew SJSU!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree on your favorite speaker Jay Leno. I swear that I was thinking about using Jay Leno as an example of a good speaker, and not only because I watch his late night show. I like the way you describes his communication as "commitment and confidence". I haven't seen or heard much of Carson Daily's show to comment on his speaking characteristics but I must say I enjoy your interpretation and description of it. I also believe that charisma has a lot to do with a host's success. I enjoyed your post this week!
