Ch9 Q3

I like the credibility side of arguments. I have not been a fan of power and authority mainly because I never have been a person in a position to tell people what to do. When i have been in a situation on power, I tend to make myself an equal and show a sense of motivation and friendship. I agree that this is not always going to work and productivity might be effected by my lack of authority but I need to grow in this area and learn how to do it effectively. Credibility will always be respected because facts are from experience and the sense of truth will show when the speaker is getting his message across.

Week4 Q2

I pick Sarah Palin as a strong speaker. She holds her ground and knows how to win people over which she done a good job in the recent election. Other than being the mayor of Alaska, Sarah Palin is a major international star with lots potential in the near future in entertainment and politics. Her strength is attractiveness with credibility being her weakness but she shows charisma and passion in success and people can relate to that.

During the campaign Ms. Palin spent alot of time speaking and going on tours trying to stand for women and power making a historic run similar to Hillary Clinton. If she was to build ethos, She will need to focus on staying out of the media's spotlight when it comes to family troubles like teenage pregnancies and shooting animals. If she can build on making changes in Alaska and the U.S. in areas like jobs, environment and housing then she will have more respect.

Week 4 Question 1

I have been influenced by many speakers over the years. One speaker that i think is trully great is late night host Jay Leno. His composure is hands down increadible and he knows how to correct himself without losing the audience. A few weeks ago i was watching his program on tv and he was telling some jokes that he lined up for the segment, he would recieve mixed responses from the audience most laughs but sometimes people can get a little offended and give suprised verbal responses. Thats what i like about his talent is that he can lift all situations because he is a professional and hes does his speaches with commitment and confidence.

On the other side of speeches, Carson Daily is a speaker that has not impressed me given the oppertunities and positions he holds. I dont find his catching and interesting. Speaking to people cant be all monotoned and unnatural especially when you are on tv. I watch him sometimes on Late Night a tv programe and he try´s to be funny and tell jokes but i can tell that he try´s way to hard and he cant keep me amused like Jay Leno and David Letterman can. I think experience and natural carisma have major parts in speaking and not everyone can develope all the skills to be a great speaker.

Ch2 Q 3

What stood out for me in this weeks reading was the game perspective on communication. Everyday we engage in a two person game called communicating. I can see the level to where people are communicating on and the styles in which they use due to their own personality. Giving signals whether verbal or nonverbal the two are always communiating with each other. One example that i like about this topic was when people are in sales and the goal is to offer excellent customer service and business. People like that they are treated with such great service knowing that it is their job. You dont completly know if the person is being friendly because its their job or because they want to be friendly without the hard sell goal.

Chapter 2 Question 2

After reading Chapter 2 and looking over the question, how is communcation like a pattern and is it like a game and how so? I look at communcating with a person as a pattern because when i am talking to be brother, we are always exchanging signals in a from that has us both making progress of some sort. We both have our skills that are better than others and we know how to communicate to each other.

Communication is a game in the way that two or more people are involved in a verbal or non verbal interaction and signals are being exchanged. When i go hand out with my friends we are always meeting up at someones place and sit around playing xbox 360 or watching tv until we have somewhere to go. The game in communicating is when people are making progress whether it is helping one person or both are bennefitting in the conversation. Thinking that communcation is not a game can be seen if people are not trying to help eachother out but are just looking to find out their issue or need and nothing more.

Week 4 Q 1 Cutural meanings

Northern California is a culture within a culture that creats meaning to many different words. Usually the younger culture seems to shape these words and uses these words for different meanings. We use words like tight and sick when we see something that looks or is cool. These words are built in our culture because we are being unique and different. Without thinking about it we are creating a different vocabularyy just like people do in cultures worldwide. I believe a place like California creates more distinct differences in meanings than other cultures so it does vary but everyone does do it. Creating meaning is a culture unity and a connection we build for our generation that makes us different than the last and future. It is a good thing to accept because people can share that cultural common vocabulary and i think this helps the community grow and function more effectively together.

Chapter One Question Three

In the first chapter i was interested in reading upon the belletristic approach and how the ´style and eloquence´ is the concentration of writings such as poetry. I like to read pieces of fine writing that has been put together from the greats and try to find out how the art form was related to peoples lifes and how the connection is understood among educated people. I feel like i would be able to understand writings and the meanings behind them or as least enjoy the work that was put into them. Knowing that the content is not the focus but the writers freedom with beautiful words telling a poetic story gives the reading less importance and more enjoyment and i like sometimes being able to relax just read like i am watching a television show.

Ch1 Question 2

Being a good Orator i believe does not mean that one has to be completley good morally if he is communicating to the public and not creating a close relationship. When i think of people who are good at selling their pitch across to other people i think of it as a skill and a way of getting what one wants at whatever costs. I do believe that it will indeed catch up to the Orator sooner or later if he/she is not morally good. The old saying that one little lie always is larger that it really is because it leads to another lie and another until it becomes so large that you are constantly coming up with lies and one becomes way in over their head with these stories. This is where public communication and goodness come into connection with truth because in order to keep a good reputation and not get caught up in a lie, one needs to be truthfull and honest to the people they are communicating with.

Ch1 Q 1

I admire the person Ernesto (Che) Guevara as a speaker for the people. He was a man that was greatly respected my most people in South America and worldwide. I would say that he was an ethos speaker, because he spoke the truth to the people he was trying to help. He spent his life after college doing bad thing which were illegal but he told people that violence was the only way to make change since the government was not helping the people. He created a revolution with ever larger dreams if it wasent for his tragic death at an early age. I would to find myself to be ethos because i always strive to show my true colors and not lie to people. I pride myself to tell the truth and be a person who people can trust in and when it comes to persuasion my honesty can help get that connection i want with one another. I think Aristotles classification scheme does work with Che because he was a person who was an open speaker telling his viewpoints and the truth because what he thought about accomplishing was to have th people of Argentina have a greater quality of life looking up to the wealth and progress that the United States has created.
